A note from Coach Schettino

Dear Port Wrestling Alumni, Friends, & Family,

I personally cannot begin to let you know how important our fundraising efforts truly are to the health and success of our great program. I wish I could sit down with each of you to passionately explain how your donations directly impact each and every wrestler on this team, and how the impact goes far beyond the mats, into the classrooms, and throughout the lives of our wrestlers. For those of you who have wrestled you know first hand the life skills this sport and our program leaves you with. Again, we literally could not do what we do without your support and donations. The funds we receive enable us to provide an atmosphere where critical life skills are learned, and success is earned. This is a critically important aspect of our program and a heartfelt effort to raise lasting funds to continue doing what we do best; molding, developing, and inspiring not only great wrestlers and students but, great young men, and women.

Here’s why; we are trying to raise money toward the costs of retaining our volunteer coaches. Having extra hands in the wrestling room is like having an extra teacher in the classroom, it’s invaluable. Sending our wrestlers to proven off-season clubs, camps, and clinics, attending invaluable team-building events to learn, bond, and motivate, for our end of season awards banquet, our journal ads for counties, and other items as they arise (motivational awards, All-County dinner, team meals, gear, etc). An example of just a few of our seasonal expenses; this season’s team building event to the climbing, ropes and zipline course cost $1000, covering year round training for all of our middle and high school wrestlers at the prestigious Ascend wrestling club costs $4000, attending local college matches and college clinics cost us upwards of $600 per season, county ad’s for the Nassau Championships costs $150 per season, All-County dinner costs $45 per head, team meals where bonding and camaraderie is built and reinforced as you can imagine adds up etc...

Another continued focus of our program is giving back to our community. Our wrestlers and coaches conduct a major community clean-up and team building event every season. The Port Washington community has benefited from our efforts and our program is committed to making this a yearly community service event. We continue to work extremely hard and without a doubt utilize all of your support as motivation!

Besides devoting a lot of time to athletics, the members of our team also take their studies seriously as indicated by our NYS Scholar Athlete team distinction for a 10th year in a row. Our wrestler’s success at balancing academics and athletics is a tribute to the responsibility, work ethic, dedication, and resilience learned through the Port Washington Wrestling Program and the sport of wrestling. The power of your support combined with our determination and commitment will help us to continue to achieve great things. We are extremely grateful for your contributions and will do our best to make you proud!

Sincerely, Coach Schettino
